Kindergarten/First Grade Teacher

Makini Cunningham is a graduate from San Diego State University. She received a B.A. degree in Sociology with an emphasis on juvenile delinquency in 2004. While in school, she worked with our youth in various settings. Ms. Cunningham worked as a teacher’s assistant at the School of Creative and Performing Arts. She also worked for a non-profit organization located in the Lincoln Park area under a California Wellness Grant. For five years, under this grant she serviced youth labeled at-risk by helping to create and implement youth development programs. Once the grant ended, she worked for Juvenile Court and Community Schools helping pregnant and parenting teens receive their high school diploma or its equivalent. In 2007 Ms. Cunningham received a multiple subject teaching credential. This is her first year at Holly Drive, but her 7th year teaching. She is a native San Diegan, and the mother of two amazing daughters. Together, they love trips Sea World, watching movies and art.

Second Grade Teacher

Kaylan Connal was born and raised in Monterey, CA. During her youth, Kaylan was fortunate enough to have both her parents work as educators, allowing her a first hand look into the teaching profession. Kaylan was able to closely observe the positive impact that her parents had on their students, as well as the joy and satisfaction that they took from their careers. These unique experiences helped Kaylan realize that she wanted to follow in their footsteps by the time she started high school. During her time at North Monterey County High School, she was a member of the varsity soccer, volleyball, and track teams.
